guest speaker- Clayton Handleman on solar installations in general and Hingham
(CH power point presentation from 1910 to 2020):
- Describes involvement with solar installation on Hingham high school. It is basically good as an academic exercise vs. generation of electricity. There proved to be structural issues with the roof and the installation of solar panels.
- For planning purposes, use $5/watt figure as cost to install.
- MA has a goal of 400 MW of solar generation
- Solar Renewable Energy Credits or SRECS
: currently $.0515/kWh
: floor of $.285
: 10 year lifetime
- in Hingham, if the array generates excess electricity into the grid, the customer will receive a per kWh credit on their bill currently priced at $.08
- HMLP has a rebate as a credit on bill = to 50% of installed cost with a cap of $3k
A colleague of Otto Harling who is interested in becoming a member of the EAC is introduced: John Bewick.
OH relates that there are $68k in annual energy savings at The Library and Town Hall with a one time cost of $52k at those buildings and $30k in annual energy savings to cost $55k at the high school based on the energy audits.
