Two notable service projects are the Kiwanis Pediatric Trauma Institute at Tufts Medical Center, Boston, a state of the art unit, and Camp Sunshine, Casco, ME, which provides a little respite for children with terminal illnesses. In Hingham, the Kiwanis Club established the tradition of serving hot, delicious pancakes at the Center Common 40 years ago.
The Lions are very excited to have an opportunity to serve alongside such a great organization as Kiwanis and be part of an enduring wonderful community event. - 9:00 AM - The Old Ship Meeting House, located at 90 Main Street, will be open an hour before and an hour after the 4th of July parade for visitors to view and learn more about this historic building and national treasure. Built by the people of Hingham, Old Ship is the only surviving colonial meeting house in America, used continuously for public assembly and worship since 1681. A National Historic Landmark, Old Ship is proud and grateful this year to have received a "Save America's Treasures" grant from the US Department of the Interior and National Parks Department for preservation work. This year, as a result, the Old Ship Meeting House is under renovation and is a work in progress. However, don't let that stop you from visiting us and experiencing a piece of history.
- 10:00 - THE PARADE!!! This year's theme is "Let Freedom ring". Start at Hingham High School (Pleasant Street) end at Station Street around 11:00 AM. Parade Buttons
Each year the 5th grade students at East, South, Foster, Plymouth River Schools under the supervision of their Art Teachers, Mr. Bliss (East), Ms. Mayo (South) Ms. McKeon (Foster), Ms Marsjanik (PRS) create many designs depicting the parade theme. Once again there was a wonderful selection for the Committee to choose from for this year Parade Button. The winners will have the opportunity to be guests of honor on parade day by riding in Ginny Gray’s baby blue Saab convertible waving to the crowds of spectators lining the parade route.
