2012 Citizen of the Year, Ginny Gray, sparkles despite the damp start to the 4th of July celebration in Hingham. Ginny carries a beautiful bouquet of flowers provided by Awesome Blossom of Pembroke. Just before the parade started Ginny was presented the flowers by the Parade Committee (see the event on HCAM TV). Ginny's ride in the parade was provided by Audi Norwell.

Thank you!
On behalf of the 2012 Fourth of July Parade Committee, I would like to thank all of the participants who contributed to a successful 4th of July Parade last week. We are always thankful for the services provided by Hingham's safety departments, Police and Fire. A special thanks to Deputy Chief of Police Glenn Olsson, who provided great leadership throughout the year on the Parade Committee. Also, thank you to our Department of Public Works personnel, who quickly restored the streets to their usual cleanliness shortly after the parade.
It is a huge effort each year to raise the funds necessary to pay for the performers and present a fun, festive, and entertaining parade. In this effort, we would like to thank A.W. Perry, who was once again our lead corporate sponsor for the event! There were many additional generous corporate sponsors, who will be listed individually in our ad in the Journal. The Silent Auction this year was lead by Paula Vangel, Monica Martin, Jason Caine, Caty Fortuin, Mary Ellen Carlisle, Ginny Gray, and Margaret Costello. The flyer in the Hingham Light Plant bill was designed by Carrie Murphy and printed/folded (donated) by The Ink Spot and inserted by the Light Company - thank you! Thanks to so many citizens that sent a donation in response to the flyer.
Additional thanks go to Ginny Gray and the Hingham Hull Rotary and their efforts to sell this year's button. I will say that there are many buttons that remain unsold and we plan to continue to sell them during the summer in an effort to continue to raise money to pay this year's costs and hopefully raise money for next year's parade. Also, thank you to Dan Leahy, General Manager of Porsche of Norwell/Audi Norwell/Volvo Village of Norwell, who provided the stylish convertibles for the Grand Marshal and Citizen of the Year to ride - despite the rain just before the parade, they were beautiful cars!
Thank you to Jay McGrail at the South Shoe Country Club for his support throughout the year. The SSCC's golf carts provide the Committee with needed transportation as we coordinate the staging of the participants from Union Street to Pleasant Street and Main Street. Due to the number of floats, bands and walking units, getting around with the carts is just invaluable. Next month, the SSCC holds a two-day tournament, the South Shore Four Ball, the proceeds of which go to the Fourth of July Parade Committee. For information on the Tournament, August 4th and 5th, please call Jay or Joe Keefe at the Pro Shop (781) 749-8479.
Thank you to Aquarion, who provided water at the parade. It sure tasted great on Station Street after walking the route!
I would be remiss not to thank the Grand Marshal, Keith Jermyn, and all he represents. The button design perfectly captured the intent of the Committee when we chose the parade theme: Hingham's Parade of Heroes. The veteran groups, the 1058, the service men and women, the safety officers, the Militia, the marching units... it was very impressive to see everyone there and think how they represent the theme of this year's parade. I think in many ways, it was a parade of heroes.
Lastly, I would like to thank this year's committee, who started meeting last November to discuss the 2012 Parade and continued to meet monthly (sometimes more frequently!) to plan for the July 4th Parade. The members include: Louis O'Dea, Margaret Costello, Mary Ann Blackmur, Carrie Murphy, George Ford (Uncle Sam!), Ginny Gray, Paula Vangel, Monica Martin, Jim Drew, III, Jason Caine, Caty Fortuin, Susan Hagstrom, Cyndy Tonucci, Cassie McDermott, Mary Ellen Carlisle, and Deputy Chief Glenn Olsson. We also had many parade day volunteers that provided invaluable assistance!

Parade Buttons
Each year the 5th grade students at East, South, Foster, Plymouth River Schools under the supervision of their Art Teachers, Mr. Bliss (East), Ms. Mayo (South) Ms. McKeon (Foster), Ms Marsjanik (PRS) create many designs depicting the parade theme. Once again there was a wonderful selection for the Committee to choose from for this year Parade Button. The winners will have the opportunity to be guests of honor on parade day by riding in Ginny Gray’s baby blue Saab convertible waving to the crowds of spectators lining the parade route.
