I. Request from Downer Avenue Resident – MBTA Bus Stop
A request was referred to the Committee by the Selectmen's office from Downer Avenue resident Andrew Price. Mr. Price is asking that the Board of Selectmen recommend to the MBTA that the bus stop located adjacent to his property be removed. The reasons that he cited include the fact that there are other stops located within 300 feet, riders exiting the bus tend to cut across his yard and leave litter in their wake which needs to be cleaned up. Mr. Price also contends that the majority of riders who use that stop are workers are Allerton House/Harbor House and are not residents of the neighborhood.
Harry Sylvester stated that he had noticed traffic backed up due to the bus stopping at the Downer Avenue location and observed that the bus is not stopping at the marked stop but at a more convenient spot for riders which is impacting Mr. Price. Paul Healey observed that the fact that the bus is not stopping at the proper location could be the problem. Chief Peraino suggested that the bus driver stop at the designated stop and block the intersection, letting people off at the crosswalk and see how that works.
A motion was made by Paul Healey to recommend that that the Selectmen contact the MBTA to request that the bus drivers use the designated bus stop as posted by Downer Avenue to drop off and pick up passengers on the 220 bus on the south side of Condito Road. James Costello seconded the motion with a unanimous vote in favor.
II. Update on Additional Handicapped Parking Space at Shipyard
Chief Peraino updated the Committee on the status of the additional handicapped parking space being added at the Shipyard. Sgt. Dearth confirmed with Michael Fitzpatrick of Samuels & Associates that a parking space adjacent to Hingham Beerworks is being changed from a standard two hour parking space to a dedicated handicapped parking space. This includes modifying the curbing and sidewalk to accommodate the handicapped space. Mr. Fitzpatrick stated that the work is scheduled to be done in November.
A motion was made by Paul Healey to adjourn the meeting at 7:40 pm. and was seconded by Scott Peterson with all in favor.
Respectfully submitted,
