Road Construction

UPDATES - June 2009

Beal Street
Beal Street (from William B Terry Drive to Fottler Road) will be under construction. The Work will consist of drainage improvements, roadway restoration (pulverize-grade-pave), sidewalk reconstruction, and the installation of a center island (to be landscaped at a latter date). As part of the project raised crosswalks will be installed as a traffic calming measure. The work is scheduled to take 8-10 weeks to complete with a small balance of work to be completed at a later date. The project is being partially funded by shipyard mitigation monies $550,000. The total project estimate is $620,000, the balance of which will be paid for by uncommitted FY 10 or FY 11 state aid funds. The work will result in occasion traffic disruptions detours and delays.

Route 228
Currently the sidewalks and the driveway aprons are under construction. They will remain under construction through the month of June. Residents can expect periodic delays in traffic and occasional detours. Roadway reconstruction will restart sometime after the bulk of the sidewalks have been completed. Utility work and roadway elevation changes still remain to be completed in front of South Elementary school. We thank everyone for there continued patience.

Construction tentatively scheduled to start in the spring-summer 09.
