Frequently Asked Questions...

What are the SWAP Shop policies?

  • Hours of operation are Thursday - Sunday 7:00am until 3:00pm, weather permitting
  • Good usable items only please
  • No mattresses, bulky furniture, computers, paint or hazardous materials.
  • No loitering, abusive language or unattended children. Respect for your neighbors and Town employees are expected and required.
  • The SWAP area can be a dangerous place for young children. Please keep them in your car.

How do I get a sticker?

  • Go to the Department of Public Works during business hours.

What do I do with construction and demolition waste?

  • Construction and demolition waste can be disposed of at the Transfer Station by permit only.  Please contact the Department of Public Works to obtain a permit. 
  • Place bulky waste in open top trailer. These are located just above the trash compactors and is done by permit only. See permit process FAQ.
  • All wood waste must be cut into three foot long pieces.
  • Noncompostable wood wastes of all types are accepted.
  • All metal must be recycled. No metal allowed in open top trailers.
  • Household trash must be separated from construction and demolition waste. When you have a permit to use the open trailer for construction and demolition waste, you must separate your regular household waste and dispose of it in the normal fashion.

Do I have to recycle?

  • Yes, recycling is mandatory and we urge residents to maximize their recycling efforts for both economic, as well as, environmental benefits.
  • Failure to recycle jeopardizes Hinghamıs recycling status within the state and subjects us to potential fines and rejection of loads.
  • Please separate and recycle items as noted in What Can I Recycle.

How do I obtain a permit?

  • Please call the Department of Public Works 781-741-1430 during regular business hours.
