All mailed in registrations will be processed in the order in which they were received after walk-in registrations have been processed beginning on Monday June 8, 2009

  • Registration deadline is 7 days prior to the scheduled start of a program.
  • Non-residents may register beginning Wednesday June 10, 2009. Non-resident registrations are processed on a space available basis after all residents are registered
  • If you cannot make it during registration, a neighbor, friend or family member may register for you. You may register no more than 2 families including your own.
  • All children must meet age/grade requirements before the start of the program.
  • Registrations are processed upon receipt of a completed registration form and payment.
  • Check(s) / Money Orders / Cash / are required for payment.
  • All registrations will be accepted on a first come, first registered basis.
  • Registrations will continue until programs are filled.
  • The Recreation Department reserves the right to consolidate, postpone, or cancel a program/trip for any reasonable cause. We otherwise have a NO REFUND policy.
  • NO CONFIRMATIONS ARE SENT - Please note all information on your calendar.
  • You may call the Office to confirm your mail-in or drop-off registration(s).
  • Proper behavior in Recreation Department programs is expected at all times. If improper behavior cannot be corrected after the first occurrence, then parents will be notified that the child will have to be excused from further Recreation Department programs.
  • The Town of Hingham does not provide accident or hospitalization insurance for any program participants. Therefore, all participants are strongly advised to have adequate personal coverage. Participation in all programs and events shall be at the registrant’s own risk.

Nothing kills a good program quicker than waiting until the last minute to register.
Any program underenrolled one-week prior to the start date will be cancelled.
Calls & registrations after the deadline cannot reactivate a cancelled program.

THE 51st ANNUAL FOURTH OF JULY ROAD RACE: “51 Years and Running”: The Hingham Recreation Commission is pleased to host the 51st Annual Hingham 4th of July Road Race. This grand Hingham tradition continues at the Hingham Middle School, 1103 Main Street, on Friday July 4, 2009 at 7AM. Runners of all ages and abilities are encouraged to sign-up and take part in this timeless Hingham tradition. The 50th Annual Hingham 4th of July Road Race attracted over 2000 runners with the proceeds providing funding for Recreation Department programs, special events, equipment and supplies. Road race revenues also fund scholarships for up to 30 children to attend the popular Summer Playground Program. Road Race details.

YOUTH SPORTS & FITNESS PROGRAMS

REC SUMMER BASEBALL: Are you disappointed that your Little League season is over? Register with your friends and enjoy playing baseball at Hersey Field. Rec Staff will coach and supervise baseball games throughout the summer months. (2 week sessions)

ALL STAR SPORTS: Come for some summer fun! Activities will include ultimate frisbee, flag football, kickball, soccer, basketball and more! (2 week sessions).

TENNIS ANYONE: Two 3-week sessions, under the direction of the Weymouth Tennis Club and its staff of tennis professionals will be offered. This is a recreational program designed to introduce individuals to the sport of tennis. Players should bring their own racket and one can of unopened balls to the first class. Each 1 hour class meets twice a week for 3 weeks. The program will be held at the recreation center courts. In the event of inclement weather a make-up class will be held.

REC LAX: Have great fun learning this exhilarating game. Fast paced and full of action, lacrosse is a unique combination of skill, speed, agility and finesse. Experience stick handling, passing, scooping, dodging, shooting and many more fundamental skills. No previous lacrosse experience is necessary.

FIELD HOCKEY FUNDAMENTALS: Participants will be taken through all phases of the game, integrating technical and tactical components in a fun, innovative way. Ball control, stick handling, passing, shooting, penalty strokes and all delivery skills will be covered through the week by a knowledgeable fully experienced staff.

DANCE FOR FUN: This program is for boys and girls who are interested in tumbling stunts, jazz dance and isolation movements. Children will also learn a combination of jazz, ballet, tap and acrobatic techniques as well as many of the favorite youth dances: macarena, electric slide, hip-hop movements, freeze dance and many more. Games will also be played including musical chairs, lip-sync, etc. There will be a fun show at the end of the week for parents, family and friends to attend. Teacher/Dancer Tracey O’Brien is certified by Test to Teach.

ADVENTURE IN SPACE & ROCKET LAUNCH: Future space explorers who will be entering grades K – 5 are invited to register for this odyssey to learn about flying both in and out of the Earth’s atmosphere. They will find out what it is like to live and work in space and design their own space station, moon base or Mars base. See how rockets work from the ground up by building and launching your very own model rocket.

ECO FRIENDLY ARTS AND CRAFTS: Spend some time with friends this summer making environmentally friendly crafts. We will make a fun assortment of crafts using natural and homemade materials as well as recycled items. There will be plenty of opportunity for open exploration of craft materials.

LAZY HAZY CRAZY DAY ART: Stories, crafts, games and outdoor activities are coordinated by favorite summer time themes. Each day involves a different aspect of summer fun along with free choice time to do open art projects. Work with sea glass, plants, sand, shells and even seaweed to make beautiful craft projects. FUNTASTIC FISHING: Hingham residents are invited to participate in this outdoor adventure. Aspiring fishermen are introduced to the sport in a relaxed and pleasant atmosphere. Experienced fishermen enjoy a day of catch and release fishing. This program will teach angler ethics and safety, the basics of fishing, needed gear, how to bait your hook, how to cast and retrieve your line and most importantly, how to take a fish off once you catch one! Advance registration is required for planning purposes.

SUMMER SOCCER: Rec Staff will supervise, coach and referee co-ed outdoor soccer games on Cronin Field for 1 week throughout the summer months. This is a perfect opportunity to stay in shape throughout the summer. Improve your soccer skills and meet new friends with this exciting new program. FEE: $70

STREET HOCKEY: Boys and girls are invited to learn the basic skills and fun drills as well as scrimmage in the Recreation Center rink. Street Hockey is a six week program.

FRESHI MUSIC MIXING CLINIC: In this workshop kids use professional music mixers and software to create their own music. Song structure, editing and mastering techniques are all taught. Kids will learn different beat methods, how to add instruments and vocal tracks and how to structure lyrics. Don’t just play music. Play your own music!

HIGH SCHOOL MUSICAL: Musical Theatre Class: Come join in on the fun of learning how to take part in a musical theatre performance. Children will learn the basics of putting together a production. In this class, boys and girls will audition for a role in the musical "High School Musical." This 45 min. performance has been rewritten along the theme of the original "High School Musical." Children will sing, dance, and act their way into a world of excitement. Students should bring snacks, drinks and a lunch. Costumes are encouraged, but not necessary. SOCCER FITNESS ACADEMY: This 4-day fitness readiness program is directed by a Massachusetts State Team Coach and will be held on Cronin Field for boys and girls entering grades 9 – 12 in September, 2009.

ON THE ROCKS: Top roping is the easiest form of rock climbing and completely SAFE! You will climb and rappel with confidence as you are safely belayed by a professional guide from the South Shore Center for Outdoor Education in this 3-day program held at the Quarry Hills in Quincy. Transportation is by individual arrangement. Boys & girls ages 8 years and older are invited to participate. All equipment is provided. In the event of inclement weather, a make up class will be scheduled.

FRESHI DIGITAL PHOTOGRAPHY CLINIC: This course is designed to help students understand the functionality of digital cameras and the basics of photography as an art form. Students will learn about lighting and composition by working with different subjects such as nature, beauty, fashion, events, and travel. They will also learn the fundamentals of editing their work with photoshop as well as how to copyright and commercialize their work using the Internet. Freshi will supply all equipment, allowing students to learn together and with ease

BEACH WEEK: Don’t miss out on this opportunity to travel to three local beaches. Have some fun in the sun with your friends and classmates. Tickets are the method of payment for all Adult Fitness Program Drop-ins. Tickets are available in any quantity in the Rec Office & Fitness Room. The cost per ticket is $8.

BOOT CAMP FITNESS: This 5 week outdoor class is designed to improve cardiovascular endurance and strength by jumping rope, running hills, sprinting, using medicine balls, doing dips, push-ups, sit-ups, etc. It’s a total body workout! Class meets rain or shine.

MEN’S BASKETBALL: Any male over 30 years old is welcome to participate in this new program. This is your opportunity to play the game you love before you go to work.

GETTING PAID TO TALK: MAKING MONEY WITH YOUR VOICE: Have you ever been told that you have a great voice? This exciting class will explore numerous aspects of voice over work for television, film, radio, audio books, documentaries and the internet in your area. Students will have the opportunity to ask questions and to hear examples of demos recorded by professional voice actors. Class participants will even have a chance to record a commercial script under the direction of our voicecoaches.com producer.

CANINE COLLEGE: Obedience classes are for puppies at least 12 weeks old who are seeking a beginners level understanding of all obedience commands, walking on a leash and for help with problems like jumping, mouthing and chewing. Adult dogs looking to get off to the right start are welcome. All other classes are considered Level 2. The dog should understand basic concepts such as sit, stay, come and down. Level 2 classes teach consistency and better listening skills in spite of distractions. All classes run for 5-weeks. Vaccination certification required. Schedule FEE: $120

FAMILY TRIPS & HOLIDAY HAPPENINGS

NANTUCKET SPECTACULAR: Join us for a tranquil voyage and a refreshing day on beautiful Nantucket Island. Nantucket has emerged as one of the premier vacation and fun spots in North America as you’ll discover today. Your luxury Silver Fox coach will transport you to the Nantucket Ferry dock in Hyannis where you will set sail at 9:20 AM in Hyline’s First Class Cabin. Once on Nantucket Island, you will have time to take in the exciting shops and explore the art galleries.

BOSTON DUCKS: Depart 8:30 AM this morning onboard your luxury VCR/DVD Silver Fox coach and travel to Boston, the ‘Home of the bean and the cod.’ On arrival you will take a sight seeing tour of the Boston Common where you’ll see the Swan Boats and the beautiful Public Gardens. A full course lunch is also included at Boston’s famous ‘No Name ‘Restaurant, located on the Fish Pier. Then you’ll be ready for our special treat of the day, a ride on one of the famous Boston Ducks! You’ll arrive home at approximately 6:00 PM.
