Duties: The Town of Hingham is seeking a Building Commissioner. Employee is required to perform structural inspection, enforcement, and administrative work in managing the Building Department. Work includes reviewing building plans; conducting on-site inspections; interpreting and enforcing building codes and zoning by-laws; supervising staff; providing information and assistance to the public, town departments, and various committees; and performing a variety of supervisory and administrative duties to ensure the efficient operation of the Building Department. Employee works under administrative direction of the Town Administrator and under the general direction of the Director of Community Planning.

Requirements: In accordance with the provisions of M.G.L. c. 143, § 3, the Inspector of Buildings, at a minimum, be certified as a Local Inspector and shall have had at least five years of experience in the supervision of building construction or design or, in the alternative, a four-year undergraduate degree or associates degree in a field related to building construction or design, or any combination of education and experience which would confer equivalent knowledge and ability. Proficiency in computer applications (Word, Excel)

Special Requirements: The Building Commissioner shall be certified by the BBRS in accordance with the provisions of Special Regulation 780 CMR 110.R7, attend classes and seminars as required, to maintain certification, and have a valid Massachusetts driver's license. This position will be subject to a pre-employment physical, and CORI check.
