Citizens Fire Academy

  • Do you know how many Fire Stations the Town of Hingham has?
  • Have you ever wondered what a Hingham Firefighter can do?
  • Have you ever had the opportunity to fight a fire or climb up a ladder truck?
  • Exactly how much does all that gear weighs?
  • Do you know how to preform CPR in life-saving situations?

Led by Hingham Firefighters, Academy sessions will cover several aspects of the department’s operations. Learn what it takes to become a firefighter and paramedic, ride the Quint’s aerial to see the Boston City Skyline, learn how to use the “Jaws-of-Life,” and deal with common emergencies. There will also be CPR training, hands on presentations of cardiac monitoring, intubations, and much more.

2026 Session: April 2 - May 21

The Citizen’s Fire Academy will take place over the course of 9 weeks, and is held Thursdays from 6 – 9pm (plus one Saturday). This year’s academy is set to be held from April 2nd to May 21st. The location of each session will vary, as we hope to give candidates the opportunity to visit and tour each of Hingham’s fire stations. Class size will be limited to 12 residents of The Town of Hingham and our application period is from February 6 to March 6, 2026. There will also be a formal graduation after successful completion of the program.

The goal of the Citizen’s Fire Academy is to have residents of the Town of Hingham be given the opportunity to become fully immersed in the working conditions of a Hingham Firefighter, and to have candidates come away with a new perspective on what exactly Hingham’s Firefighter and Paramedics do on a day to day basis, and why we do it. In return, we hope to shed light on how we can better serve the needs of our community.
