South Shore Conservatory’s (SSC) Wacky Wednesdays family concert series presents Debbie and Friends in the Jane Carr Amphitheater on July 25 at 10 am. This concert is the third of four family-friendly Wednesday morning concerts at One Conservatory Drive in Hingham this summer. Wacky Wednesdays is one of two series in the Conservatory’s diverse Summer Spotlight outdoor summer entertainment series. The family series is sponsored by The Harold and Avis Goldstein Trust, with WATD as the media partner. Summer Spotlight also includes Evenings Under the Stars Saturday evening concerts.

Children's entertainer Debbie Cavalier of Debbie and Friends uses original songs to tell stories that children know and love, and has been making music with kids for over 20 years. From the moment her band launches into their first song, “I’m Glad You’re Here,” children in the crowd understand their role: to participate, sing, dance, jump and interact with the Debbie and Friends band. From that high-energy opener to the ecstatic ending, the pacing of a Debbie and Friends show perfectly aligns with the attention spans of their young audience. This family-friendly band rocks out and gets the kids dancing in a theatre-sized conga line, and then brings them down gently to relax and engage in more attentive ways. Drawing heavily from fairytales that kids will already be familiar with, Debbie and Friends presents enough lyrical updates to keep these stories fresh, and to keep everybody tuned in and laughing, including the parents. Debbie and Friends has been honored with 25 national awards including the 2011 Grammy® Award for their part on the Best Children’s Album that year with their anti-bullying song, “Walk Away.” “A live Debbie and Friends show is perfect for families and elementary-aged kids,” says SSC Director of Performance Beth MacLeod Largent, who chose the engaging band for Wacky Wednesdays. “Kids love her energy and appreciate the many instruments she brings including keyboards, banjo, hand percussion, flute and vocals. Her music style ranges from straight ahead pop to country, rock and reggae, and her music is fun, interactive and educational.”

New this year are food trucks at every Summer Spotlight performance. Interspersed throughout the 2018 season are Sadie Mae’s Cupcake Cafe, Rolling Roost Food Truck, and Mom on the Go Food Truck, offering a variety of foods such as indulgent cupcakes, designer grilled cheese, barbecue pulled pork, steak burritos, strawberry avocado salad, couscous salad with cherries, and avocado toast. The final Wacky Wednesdays performances is SSC’s own ImagineARTS Band on August 1. Performances take place rain or shine. Tickets for family concerts are $15 for adults and $5 for children. Special packages are available for groups of 10 or more. There is no charge for children under three. Tickets may be purchased online at https://sscmusic.org/wacky/ or by calling 781-749-7565, ext. 22.
