Veolia is aware of the discoloration issues impacting the Weir River Water System. We thank you for your patience as our personnel work diligently to mitigate these issues.
The source of the discoloration is naturally occurring sediment within the system, stirred by pressure fluctuations from exceptionally high demand during this ongoing heat advisory impacting much of the Northeast.
Please be advised that system-wide samples for total coliform bacteria were collected on Wednesday June 19, 2024 during the initial discoloration event. All samples tested absent for total coliform bacteria pursuant to Massachusetts DEP regulations. Veolia continues to monitor the water quality in the interest of public health.
Veolia personnel have been working to steadily flush discolored water through the system, drawing clear water into the affected areas. Crews will remain on this course of action into the evening hours tonight and resume tomorrow morning and into the next several days until the system has cleared. While conditions have improved in North Cohasset and Hingham–we are maintaining a presence in those areas to monitor hydrants and preemptively prevent additional discoloration moving towards Hull, which is the primary area of concern at the time of this notification.
Veolia Technical & Performance professionals have been actively refining data and the hydraulic model of the Weir River System in an effort to determine the most efficient unidirectional flushing program moving forward.
In order to streamline information in real time please send emails to operations@weirriverwater.com with your address and the status of your water so that we can effectively track the most affected areas. While these emails are being monitored, due to the volume we are unable to respond. Please ensure that you’re registered to receive WRWS alerts through your billing account.
