Town of Hingham Releases Important Information Relating to Annual Town Meeting, Annual Town Election

HINGHAM -- The Town of Hingham would like to alert the public about important information relating to the upcoming Annual Town Meeting and Annual Town Election. 

Town Meeting

Hingham’s 2022 Annual Town Meeting will be held on Saturday, April 30, beginning at 2 p.m. It will be held at the multi-purpose turf field at Hingham High School. Town Meeting is an opportunity for residents to participate in their community’s legislative process.

Although COVID-19 cases have decreased dramatically in Town and throughout Plymouth County, the Town plans to hold the meeting outdoors out of an abundance of caution.

The full Town Meeting Warrant is posted on the Town Meeting webpage. A hard copy will be mailed to every Hingham household in the coming weeks.

For residents with questions about the Town Meeting, helpful procedural information can be found on page 3 of the Warrant. The “Citizen’s Guide to Town Meeting” published by the State also has helpful information. 

The rain dates for Town Meeting will be Sunday, May 1, at 2 p.m. outdoors at Hingham High School and Monday, May 9, at 7 p.m. indoors at Hingham High School.

Town Election

The annual town election will be held on Saturday, May 14, from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. Candidates have been qualified to run for the following offices:

For Moderator (one year, vote for one)

    Michael J. Puzo, Candidate for Re-election

For Select Board (three years, vote for one)

    Joseph M. Fisher, Candidate for Re-election

For Board of Assessors (three years, vote for one)

    Christine M. Roberts, Candidate for Re-election

For Board of Assessors (one year, vote for one)

    Carlton A. Chambers, Sr., Candidate for Re-election
    Randall M. Winters

For Board Of Health (three years, vote for one)

    Kirk J. Shilts, Candidate for Re-election

    Rosemary D. Byrne

For Housing Authority (one year, vote for one)

    Michelle A. Larned

For Municipal Light Board (three years, vote for one)

    Michael D. Reive

For Planning Board (five years, vote for one)

    Gordon M. Carr, Candidate for Re-election

For Recreation Commission (five years, vote for one)

Residents should note that no-excuse early voting expired in December 2021, and voting by absentee ballot is currently the only option to vote by mail. Absentee ballot eligibility is available if:

    You will be absent from Hingham on election day during polling hours

    You have a disability that prevents you from voting at your polling location

    You cannot vote at the polls due to a religious belief

Absentee applications are available on the Secretary of State’s website

The last day to register to vote for Town Meeting is Friday, April 8. The Town Clerk’s Office will be open until 8 p.m. 

The last day to register to vote for the Town Election is Wednesday, May 4. The Town Clerk’s Office will be open until 8 p.m.

The Town will provide updates on new precinct information based on the 2020 U.S. Census in the near future.
