[ARCHIVED] Health Department Reminds Residents of Importance of COVID-19 Boosters

HINGHAM — The Hingham Health Department is encouraging all residents to keep up their protection against COVID-19.

Like other viruses, COVID-19 changes over time, leading to new variants. COVID-19 boosters provide protection against these variants, giving the body an added layer of defense. While vaccine protection decreases over time, boosters re-stimulate the immune system and increase vaccine effectiveness again.

While it is possible to still get COVID-19 after a booster, the risk of severe illness, hospitalization and death are greatly reduced.

Recommended booster doses vary by age and health status. Residents interested in receiving a booster or learning more are encouraged to check with their Primary Care Physician or visit mass.gov/CovidBooster for more information.

The Hingham Health Department is also always available to answer questions by phone at 781-741-1466.
