Massachusetts Department of Public Health has notified Hingham Health Department that a mosquito has tested positive for West Nile Virus (WNV) in Hingham.  To date, there have been no human cases of WNV detected in Hingham this year. Currently, Hingham is at a low risk for WNV.  Please keep in mind the following ways to prevent WNV:

  1. Be prepared: Know your risk, repair screens, clean up to get rid of mosquito breeding sites, be aware of stagnant water on private property (e.g. unused swimming pools) and consult the local board of health with questions at 781-741-1466 or email
  2. Wear mosquito repellent between dusk and dawn
  3. Wear long sleeves and long pants from dusk to dawn
  4. Use mosquito netting on baby carriages and playpens

To view Hingham’s risk level please see the website and map:  Massachusetts arbovirus update (
