2019 Historic Preservation Awards Call for Nominations

Preservation Award


Every year the Town of Hingham seeks nominations for Preservation Awards to projects and people who have made outstanding contributions toward the goal of Historic Preservation through highlighting, maintaining, or restoring Hingham’s historic resources. The Awards Committee invites you to nominate individuals, organizations or companies that you believe are most qualified for this exceptional honor.

Eligibility

  • Nominated projects must have been completed within the past three years. Exceptions are ongoing stewardship or other historic preservation activities.
  • Nominations submitted previously, but not selected for an award may be revised and resubmitted.
  • Nominations for projects must have the consent of the property owner to be considered. Nominations for an individual, organization or company must have the consent of the nominee(s). Self-nominations will be accepted.
  • Nominations for individuals can cover a lifetime’s worth of activity at a particular site and/or advocacy for historic preservation.

Evaluation Criteria

This award is juried. The Award Committee will review nominations within each category according to the following criteria as they apply to a property or activity. A nomination may fit into more than one category.

  1. Historical and architectural significance of the preserved property
  2. Extent to which the project or activity contributed to preserving the property
  3. Impact of the project or activity on the preservation of the town’s historic resources
  4. Degree to which the project serves as an example of good preservation practices to others
  5. Creativity or effectiveness in leveraging a project’s educational potential
  6. Degree of difficulty of problems or threats faced and the creativity and appropriateness of the solutions applied
  7. Design sensitivity to the historic character and fabric of the property.
  8. Where applicable, the degree to which the Secretary of the Interior’s Standards for the Treatment of Historic Properties was observed. These are a widely recognized industry standards for best practices in preservation and stewardship of historic buildings.
