Mass DPH - Orders to Protect Workers Supporting Grocery Stores and Pharmacies

Hingham Health Department – Mass Department of Public Health has issued orders to protect workers supporting grocery stores and pharmacies. Please read the attached direction from DPH.

A few highlights that we are working with our grocery stores and pharmacies include:

  • Grocery stores and pharmacies must provide alternative hours, at least one hour every day for adults over 60 years old.
  • Grocery stores and pharmacy employees shall not perform bagging of retail products if reusable checkout bags are used. 
  • Customers at grocery stores and pharmacies shall not use reusable checkout bags until further notice
  • Grocery stores, pharmacies, food banks and emergency food programs may use recyclable paper, compostable plastic or single use plastic bags.
