The Town of Hingham is providing notice of traffic impacts due to construction within Route 3A, beginning at the intersection of Broad Cove Road, Lincoln Street, Downer Avenue and Thaxter Street, continuing within Lincoln Street to the intersection of Fottler Road and Bradley Woods Drive. This change is effective May 5th, 2025, thru May 30th, 2025, or until the contractor completes the work within this corridor. Periodic updates as construction progresses will be forthcoming.
Due to existing conditions including the location of conflicting utilities and ledge, it is necessary for the contractor to remove two lanes from the traveled way to provide a safe work zone to conduct the work. The lane restriction will be active from 07:00 AM until 05:00 PM. One lane of traffic will be maintained for travel in each direction. Please plan accordingly.
The Town sincerely appreciates your patience as we work to improve this public infrastructure. It is important to note that the reduction in traffic capacity during rush hour will significantly improve the pace of work, allowing us to complete the project in four months or less, instead of six or more months of construction under time restricted work conditions. In order to minimize impacts, the Town is working with our contractor on alternative construction methods for certain segments of the work. We will also be actively monitoring traffic conditions and updating our traffic plans with Waze.com to provide the public information on road conditions. To date, the traffic impacts have not exceeded the allowable delays stipulated within our MassDOT permit.
