Clause 56

Allows members of the Massachusetts national guard or military reservists who are on active duty to obtain a reduction of all or part of their real and personal property taxes for any fiscal year they are serving in a foreign country.  This was approved for use in Hingham at town meeting.

Valor Act: Tax Work-Off Application 

The Hingham Veterans’ Property Tax Work-Off Program allows qualified veterans an abatement of up to $1,875 for volunteer work in a fiscal year, as directed by the Hingham Veterans’ Services Officer. There is a maximum of 125 hours at prevailing minimum wage in the Commonwealth.

Priority will be given to veterans eligible for MGL c. 115 benefits and/or veterans who are age 65 or older. Disabled veterans who are selected may utilize a substitute person.
