Sewer Connection

North Sewer District

For the North Sewer District the fee for connection of existing households is $1,000. The fee for new construction or renovation of households or commercial buildings which adds flow to the system is $2.67 per gallon based on a 6 to 1 reduction goal in accordance with the standard gallon per day tables of the Department of Environmental Protection.

Example: The addition of 1 bedroom is 110 gallons/day times $2.67 times 6 equals $1,762.20.

All of the funds collected for new or upgraded connections are segregated for I&I removal and/or major sewer projects.

Weir River Sewer District

For the Weir River Sewer District the Sewer Commission must first decide if there is adequate capacity for additional properties and/or bedrooms.  There is no separate connection fee at this time. However, connection of buildings which have not paid a betterment is $8,153 for Phase I and $12,348 for Phase II.  These were the betterment's assessed per unit for the construction of these projects.  The fee for an additional bedroom over three is $2,717.67 for Phase I and $4,166.00 for Phase II.

Applications and criteria for connection as well as our policy on dedicated meter installation are available at the Sewer Department office or can be mailed upon telephone request.

Drainlayer's Application Process

Contractors wishing to be added to the Drainlayer list to perform excavations in Hingham need to fill out an Application for Drainlayer's License, provide an up-to-date Certificate of Insurance, schedule to take a Drainlayer Test (new applicants only) and pay a New License Fee/License Renewal Fee of $200 per fiscal year.  All of which are available at:

Sewer Line Excavations

Only contractors on the list of Approved Drainlayers, licensed through the Hingham Sewer Department office, are authorized to excavate any sewer lines in Town for the purpose of repairing, replacing or installing service lines.

All contractors on this list have passed a written job knowledge test, supplied an up-to-date Certificate of Insurance and paid their yearly fee.
