Recycling

The Town of Hingham, Department of Public Works and the Cleaner Greener Hingham Committee would like to remind residents that recycling is mandatory and urge residents to maximize their recycling efforts for both economic, as well as, environmental benefits. We do however, point out that placement of unacceptable items into collection containers or placement of items in the wrong containers or areas can contaminate the load and may result in rejection of the entire load by the recycling vendor. Please separate and recycle all items noted, and dispose of all other items with your household rubbish.

Trash Transfer

The Trash Transfer area, which was opened in February 2000, consists of 4 individual compactor units for collection of household rubbish only. Separate open top trailers are available for bulky items such as: furniture, rugs and small amounts of demolition (please refer to Fee Schedule for rates). The town not only encourages, but also requires recycling for all. Recycling and separation continue to be the two most important factors in allowing the town to dispose of solid waste at the best price.
